We are retroFUTURO. We were founded on December 27, 2021. We are a duo playing music inspired by the counterculture music of the 60's, punk and electronica.

Band composition:
Jacek Czarnecki - vocals, Endlesss app on IOS (beat, bass, keyboards), composer, lyricist
Piotr Dejneka - guitarist, composer

We on the band, and about ourselves:

JACEK:
I've been playing with Piotr in various arrangements almost forever. I decided to honor his guitar artistry by suspending it in a network of samples and beats. I used the experience I gained in the community of passionate collective playing live through the Endlesss app. I'm still learning to sing, and with this I can finally interpret my own lyrics. I want to move forward. I feed myself with development. I am FUTURO!

PIOTR:
retroFuturo is a response to the covid closure of social life, its suppression and an attempt to cope with the situation. Something had to be done. We decided to play. Simplifying many musical procedures, we created a duo, where an electric guitar and a cell phone would be the basis of contact with the audience. This is how it was done. The first formal rehearsal took place in a private home on December 27, 2021, using a guitar, a cell phone, a small console and two small guitar amps. It surprised, and week by week there was more and more of it.

The first attempts at combining a guitar and a smartphone took place a little earlier as early as the spring of 2021, although the original formula of musical improvisation eventually solidified into a project to build musical wholes referring to traditional forms of music usually connoted with bands.

So there is a sampler program, thanks to which Jacek creates backgrounds for both the rhythm and bass sections as well as the sysnthesizer, there is an ipad( the successor to the phone) a guitar, and there is singing.

Here was the problem, Jacek was not a vocalist. Over the years he wrote personal lyrics derived from observing what was around him( all the lyrics to our songs were created by Jacek) and a drummer combining elements of traditional rhythms with the rhythms of electronic music. It worked, so all the pieces of the puzzle could be combined into a coherent whole. A kind of paradox emerged that defines our performativity with two words: the power of simplicity, and more precisely as retroFUTURO. We make music together, even in the case of other artists' pieces( for now it's 1 piece -Shadowplay) there is a creative transformation.

The point is not to play the same way, here you can play the original recording, but to add something while paying tribute to the creators. In any case, this is how I see it. Our music is the story of an alien who, "sucked " by a time machine somewhere from the music scene of the 60-70s, met Jack and had to find his way on the modern scene where the telephone, which sometimes also rings, is basically used to manage the entire universe of most citizens of planet earth.

That alien is me (the retro in question from the band's name), with my primitive, somewhat dirty and God forbid professional style of guitar playing more suited to the late 1960s than to the style of Youtube influencers telling how and what to play on such and such a guitar...

Jacek, therefore, is FUTURO, the captain of the ship, who tries to use this vintage style to create musical hybrids that tell new stories using this potential that has flown into space.

Music is our passion but at the same time a hobby, we have never been known and have no need for flaunting either, we just want to show something that flows out of us and becomes energy... before it disappears with the passage of time into the abyss of oblivion.

Privately, we both have PhDs, our professional lives and our own affairs just like everyone else.

Music as one of the languages of art is supposed to convey something and we try to use this language to the best of our ability...

By the way, hearty greetings to all other artistic activities marked with the acronym retro-futuro...(each spelled a little differently).

At the end of 2022 we recorded all the material to date. Igor Brzeski head of Sunstorm Studio Warsaw had a huge influence on the final result of our recordings. Igor is not only a great realizer, but also creates a very positive atmosphere for creative work. We thank you for that Igor.

We would also like to take this opportunity to express our deep gratitude to Piotr Fedorczyk, who designed the cover and handled the production of our first album. Piotr was there for the pressing, printing of the cover, and arranged a discount for us, so we could avoid additional costs. The album, despite the so-called base circulation for friends, required a lot of artistic and logistical commitment. We thank you Piotr for your dedication and support. Finally, we would also like to express our deep gratitude to Krzysztof PasoĊ„, who in his spare time voluntarily designed and maintains for us the website retrofuturo.fp.pl. Thanks to this openness, our music archive, including our photo archive, lives its own life, outside of all the influence of the now largely commercialized virtual space of the Internet. We would like to thank you for this Krzysztof.
